Sir William Schlich Memorial Award -- Awarded in 2020 by the Society of American Foresters
​
America's oldest professional forestry award, it was first given to President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1935. It recognizes broad and outstanding contributions to the field of forestry with emphasis on policy and national or international activities. Read SAF's announcement here.
Guldin is the 12th recipient who was a long-time USDA Forest Service employee, and is the first Forest Service recipient since Dr. Robert Buckman in 1994. He is also the 12th alumnus of Yale University's Forestry School to receive the award, the first since 1984, and the 2nd alumnus of the Pennsylvania State University's School of Forest Resources, first since B. Distinguished Service Award -- Awarded in 2014 by the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO)
​
The award recognized outstanding leadership for the Task Force on the Forest Science-Policy Interface (1999-2005), and as the Chair of the Congress Organizing Committee for the XXIV IUFRO World Congress, Salt Lake City, UT, the largest gathering of forest researchers ever in North America. See page 118.

Fellow -- Elected in 2017 by the Society of American Foresters

The rank of Fellow recognizes SAF members for long-standing service to SAF, the profession, and are ambassadors for the advancement of forestry. About 8 percent of SAF's members are Fellows.
